11/16/08 - Week 100
Door To The Past
Week 100 and time for a change. This is an attempt to make things look more like a weekly blog than just the old photo of the week.
New features include:
A smaller image for faster load time that you can click on to see the full size image in another window.
Image info for those who care.
A menu for past images of the week on the main page.
I will also try include a little more about the image itself as to location, shooting conditions or the setup for the shot. Hopefully this will give you a little more information and some ideas for your own photography or some ideas on places to go or things to shoot.
This weeks shot comes to you from what was at one time a rip roaring old west town. Today Bodie California is a State Park and kept in a state of "Arrested Decay". What this means is while they do work on the buildings to keep then from falling down, any work they do is with materials from old buildings that have fallen. It's kind of like a used parts to fix a used car thing.
Bodie is about three hours outside of Reno, NV and well worth the trip if you are down that way in the late Spring / Summer / Early Fall seasons. What I'm saying here is for most people you wouldn't want to try it in the Winter. It is often the coldest place in the Lower 48 States and the snow drifts are amazing.
A lot of good shooting there if you like old buildings, mining equipment and like that. Needless to say morning or evening are best and you will get a whole different look to the town between the two with different sides of the buildings being in the good light. Don't bother with the mine in the morning as it is in deep shadows.
Anyway ... I found the door, knob and locks interesting. To give away my age I can say I remember doors like that but I don't remember seeing one with two locks.
