02/08/09 - Week 112
Smith Rock Rerun
Well it's not really a rerun but different location in the park from the shot I posted on 01/03/09. This was taken on the South side of the river and a little earlier in the day.
I shot about fifty frames that day and then did my normal "toss and pitch" to thin them down to the best of the lot. I ended up with four of them that I was really happy with. I put the four of them on a page as a poll. If you haven't been to the poll page yet this is your official invitation to go there and let me know which of the shots you like the best. Seeing your choices give me input from you as to what works best for framing and for what others want to see.
Here is a little more information about Smith Rock State Park for those that are interested:
Smith Rock is a famous and well known area for rock climbers from all over the country and on a nice day you will see dozens of them climbing the high rocks seen in this image. More information on the park can be found on the Oregon State Parks site.
In the late spring there is plenty of color as the sage is green and blooming with yellow flowers and it is a pretty place with the red towering cliffs. It does dry out very fast and colors end up turning to dull greens, grays and browns. The best times to catch any good color are sunrise and sunset and if it has rained. The moisture will really bring out the color in the rocks. Shooting early in the day the shadows are on the move and lighting changes very quickly and shadows move fast. You don't have to wait long for a very different look in your images.
Hope you enjoy. Have a great week! |
