03/22/09 - Week 118
Hola. He vuelto !
For you non Spanish speaking viewers that translates to "Hi, I have Returned!" That is what they told me at the FreeTranslation.com site anyway.
While I try to stay away from posting hummingbirds sitting on feeders, I'm making an exception this week.
This is a photo of the first Rufous Hummingbird to make it to my feeders this year. It is a young male and he showed up on March 18th. By the end of the week there were two females and another older male here and hungry.
For those of you that don't know the Rufous spend their winters in Mexico and then migrate as far north as Alaska in the spring. You think you have a fancy car with a GPS and that great computer that runs everything. A hummer has a brain the size of a BB and can make the trip from Mexico to Alaska and back and remember where the feeders are within two feet of their location!
For lots more information, photos and even a couple of video clips you and visit the hummingbird section of my web site.
Hope you enjoy. Have a great week!
