07/04/10 - Week 185
College Fjord
I hope you are having or had a good 4th Of July weekend.
I am staying with glaciers this week as I'm still sorting and editing and haven't made it to the wildlife yet.
College Fjord is located in Prince William Sound and has five tidewater glaciers and a large number of other glaciers. The count on them and some of the names are here. The glacier in this photo is Harvard Glacier. The face is about one and a half miles wide. Perspective is one of the hardest things to figure in Alaska because everything is so big. To give you an idea on the width of this glacier, you would have to line twenty six football fields end to end to match the width.
While Harvard Glacier is pretty good size it is small in comparison to Hubbard Glacier which is six miles wide when it meets the water. Hubbard will be a subject for another week.
I will be tossing in some more Alaska shots as the Photo Of The Week as I get them sorted out.
Have a great week!
